Mother tongue: Saxophone Music by Women
Australia has a proud tradition of producing music composed
by women. Despite this, women composers do not enjoy equal
recognition to their male counterparts. In recent years
women have made a significant contribution to the growth
and development of saxophone music in Australia. This
concert features selected works of Margery Smith, a world
premiere by Rosalind Page, and the Australian Premiere of
Barbara Woof’s Hymns and Melodies,
developing an engaging dialogue that highlights the power
of these composers and their diverse musical languages.
